Today’s project is a 3-D project, I created a paper frame to display your most favorite male/father in your life using the Come Sail Away Suite. The designer series paper and embellishments will be retiring as of June 2 but the Sailing Home Bundle will be carrying over into the new catalog. The sentiments come from the stamp set A Good Man which will also be carrying over into the new catalog.

To create the 5 x 7 Shadowbox Frame you will need a 10 x 12 piece of card stock I used Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper. Score of the same on all four sides 1/2″, 1″, 1 1/2″, 2″. On both the Long sides you will need two additional score lines at 2 1/2 ” and 9 1/2″ , scoring down 1 inch or two the second scoreline.

To create the cuts you will now cut up two score lines straight up but not passed the second score line, then on a diagonal from corner to corner cut to the third score line, then straight up to the next score line, and then you will cut along the fourth score line to create your corners.

Now placing Tear &Tape along the edge closest to the scoreline not the edge of the paper. Adhere down, it should easily be folded along your score lines to create a square box-shaped corner should fall into place now your frame is created.

I have embellished the inside using an additional piece of Whisper White card stock and the Compass stamp from the Sailing Home stamp set with Crumb Cake ink. I stamped randomly over the Whisper White card stock to create an interesting background. I then cut out a piece of Crumb Cakes card stock creating a frame using the largest of the Stitched Shape Rectangle Dies then embossed in two directions using the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder. I then cut out two additional rectangles’ second-smallest third-smallest with two varying pieces of Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper using the Stitched Shape Rectangle Dies.

I stamped the small Sailboat on a scrap piece of Whisper White card stock using Gray Granite ink. I also stamped an additional compass on a piece of Crumb Cake card stock using Crumb Cake ink and then die cut using the captain’s wheel die from the Smooth Sailing Dies. Now to create the lighthouse I stamped on Crumb Cake card stock using Versamark ink embossed with White embossing powder and heat set with my heat tool. I then colored it using my aqua painter and some Night of Navy, Seaside Spray ink. Using the coordinating die from the Smooth Sailing Dies I  cut out your lighthouse. I cut out two pieces of the Seaweed using the dies from the smooth sailing dies and Old Olive card stock and added a bit of Wink of Stella.

Using the sentiments from A Good Man stamps, stamp” it’s your day” and “relax your way” using Night of Navy ink on Whisper White card stock, I then cut out using the Stitched Rectangle Dies and the Stitch Shape Dies.

Now I created a rope using the Night Navy/Sahara Sand Bakers twine, I braided a long piece added a few loose knots on each end and glued it onto the top of the frame .

I glued the smaller rectangles that were cut out from the designer series paper onto the back portion of the large Crumb Cake rectangle then using dimensionals I placed it into the frame then adding a few trinkets as well as my die cut pieces. The sentiments were added to the bottom of the inside of the frame. I glued the seaweed on one side and the lighthouse on the other.

Your shadowbox frame is now complete ready for your favorite picture!

  1. I love your masculine picture frame. Sailing Home is one of the best sets that has all the embellishments to make it special. Great idea and job well done. Thanks! #stampitcontest
